Best FrontierVille Tips
71Playing FrontierVille
One of the most popular things to do on Facebook is to play games. There are tons of games on Facebook that allow you to help and get help from your friends to achieve goals on them. Two of the most popular games are FarmVille and Mafia Wars from Zynga. One of Zynga's newer games is called FrontierVille, which is quickly becoming another favorite among Facebook gamers.
If you enjoy playing FarmVille, you'll almost certainly like FrontierVille. They are alike in some ways, as both have animals, crops, trees, and buildings. However, in FrontierVille you can do missions and build a family. You'll also use energy every time you do an action on your frontier, and level up when you get enough experience points.
Gameplay
When you first start playing FrontierVille you'll see various meters at the top of the game screen. These show how much of certain things you have. You'll see your levels of horseshoes, coins, wood, food, energy, and experience. Along the bottom of the game screen, you'll see your neighbors. To the right of the neighbors there's a small menu screen that includes your move, rotate, sell, and store tool, as well as the market, inventory, and more.
Playing FrontierVille is easy. You'll be guided a bit at first to learn how to play. All you have to do is click on anything you want to take an action on. After a few minutes, you'll get the idea.
Food and Energy
It requires energy to do things like clearing, harvesting, and feeding on FrontierVille, and you only have so much to use. Once you use all of your energy, you have to give it time to build back up. If you don't want to wait, you can use your food to purchase meals. These meals will give you more energy to use instantly. One great FrontierVille tip is to save up your food when you don't have much to do on your frontier, then buy meals with it when you really need it.
There are ways to increase your maximum energy. Every now and then, leveling up will add to your max energy. There are also missions and a school courses that will give you a higher max.
Horseshoes
In FrontierVille, you can buy special items with horseshoes. To get horseshoes, you can either order them for a fee or wait until you level up. There are some tough missions that will give you a nice horseshoe bonus. It's a good idea to save your horseshoes for when you really need them.
Clearing Your Frontier
One of the first things you should do when you start playing FrontierVille is to clear room so you can place buildings, crops, fruit trees, and animals. There will plenty to clear - grass, wildflowers, rocks, cacti, skulls, thorns, and trees. These things will also starting growing on cleared land over time.
Missions
While FrontierVille shares certain aspects with FarmVille, there is one big difference - the missions. When these missions are completed, you'll get bonuses in the form of experience, items, coins, food, or a combination of them.
FrontierVille missions can require just about anything - clearing land, building buildings, planting crops, tending to animals, doing things to neighbor's frontiers, and so on. You'll find that many missions have more than one part to them, though you will get bonuses for completing each of them.
Every now and then, FrontierVille puts out a timed mission. These are missions that you will have a limited time to complete once you start them. If you have enough neighbors, they usually aren't too tough to complete.
Frontierville Animals
FrontierVille features some animals that you can put on your frontier. You can buy them, get them as gifts, or get them from completing collections. These animals start out small and grow as you feed them. Every time you feed them you'll get some coins and experience, and possibly a collection item.
There are nine main types of animals featured in FrontierVille. These are chickens, geese, pigs, sheep, goats, cows, oxen, mules, and horses. Most of them cost coins to buy, while mules cost three horseshoes and horses cost four. The cheaper animals, such as chickens, get ready to feed quicker, but don't give you as much coins and experience when you do it. More expensive animals like oxen will take longer in between feedings but will give you more bonuses. All of the major animals have their own collections. You can also sell animals for coins, and will get more coins for adult animals. One of the best FrontierVille tips is to get up to decent amount of each kind (besides mules and horses) as there are some missions that require you to buy and sell animals. You can't complete the missions unless you sell adult animals, so if you have them grown up ahead of time you'll get through those missions much quicker.
There are also mystery animals you can buy with horseshoes or that you'll get as bonuses for completing certain goals. These types of animals include deer, owls, and hedgehogs. Mystery animals have a collection that you get from any of them. You may be able to find some of these animals for a limited time in the market, or you can buy a mystery animal crate that will give you a random one.
FrontierVille Buildings
There are plenty of buildings you can build on FrontierVille. You start with a covered wagon and go from there. When you first start putting a building up, you'll need to "whack" the frame a number of times to build it. Once the frame is up, each building requires building materials that you can buy with horseshoes or ask your friends for. Of course, the better option is to ask your friends. If they're loyal, you'll get the materials you need quickly.
Most buildings require five materials - hammers, nails, bricks, hand drills, and paint buckets. There are some buildings that require shingles, mallets, pegs, windows, and either (or a combination of) measuring tape, elbow grease, and screwdrivers. You will need to get a number of each of them for each building either from buying them with horseshoes or asking your friends.
Once buildings are built, you can visit them to create certain items. These items will usually be needed to complete certain missions. Sometimes, you'll need to create an item from a building you'll need to create another item from another building first if it requires it. You can also get a bonus from your buildings once per day.
Crops
There are plenty of different kinds of crops you can plant and harvest on Frontierville. These crops will give you coins, food, and experience points when you harvest them. The types of crops you can plant are clover, tomatoes, pumpkins, potatoes, flax, corn, wheat, peas, cotton, peanuts, sunflowers, and eggplant. When you plant these crops, it takes time for them to be ready for harvest, ranging from 5 minutes for clover to 4 days for peanuts. There is a mission that requires you to plant and harvest 1500 peanuts (not all at once), so be prepared.
Fruit Trees
There are five different types of fruit trees you can plant on FrontierVille. These are apple, apricot, cherry, peach, and pear. When you plant a fruit tree you water it when it's ready. As you water these fruit trees they will grow (which happens rather quickly) and you can harvest the fruit that grows on them for food. You won't see many missions that involve fruit trees, but they are a must have to complete their collections and get food.
Frontierville Decorations
Of course you'll want to make your frontier look good. There are plenty of decorations you can buy at the market to spiff it up. All of them will cost either coins or horseshoes and some are only available temporarily. Some missions will also give you decorations when you complete them.
Collections
Feeding animals, harvesting crops, getting rid of varmints, clearing your frontier, and collecting daily bonuses from buildings will give you collections items every now and then. Every animal, crop, building, and varmint has their own collection of five items. When you complete a collection you can turn it in for bonus items.
One of the top FrontierVille tips is to wait before you turn in some of your collections because some hard to find collection items will be needed to complete some missions.
FrontierVille Gifts
To get things done more quickly on FrontierVille you can send and receive gifts. You can send one free gift to each of your friends once per day. This is a good idea since they could possibly return the favor. You can also send gifts from your inventory or from collections, though this will take them from you.
Going to Class
Once the schoolhouse is built and you do the required missions you'll be able to go to class. When you go to class, you can enroll in courses that will bonuses such as more maximum energy, a discount at the market, or more coins for feeding your animals. You have to purchase each course with ribbons and either coins or wood (some temporarily available courses will require horseshoes).
To complete the courses you enroll in, you'll need to collect a number of slate, chalk, ink pens, ink wells, and spitballs. You can get these items the same way as you get building materials - by spending horseshoes or asking your friends.
Many ribbons will be needed to enroll in all of the schoolhouse courses. One of the top FrontierVille tips for getting more ribbons is to feed your sheep and plant and harvest flax and cotton often. Completing the cotton collection will get you 1 ribbon, the sheep collection will get you two of them , and the flax collection will get you four.
Neighbors
As with pretty much every other game on Facebook, you can involve your friends when you play FrontierVille. You ask them to be your neighbors on this game. To even be able to plant certain crops, build certain buildings, and do certain missions you'll need enough neighbors.
On FrontierVille, you can go to your neighbors frontiers and tend to their animals and crops as well as clear away trees, grass and more. Each time you visit one of your neighbors you get an energy and coin bonus. You can then perform five actions on their frontiers. When you do these actions you'll get small coin, food, and experience bonuses depending on what you tend to. You also get a reputation bonus for each action you perform on a neighbors frontier, which raises the reputation meter that you can only see when you're visiting neighbors. Every time you level up in reputation, you get a food bonus. There are also quite a few missions that require you to tend to certain things on neighbor frontiers. You can visit each of your neighbors once per day.
Your neighbors can also visit your frontier and tend to it. You'll get bonuses for everything they tend to. They also get five actions and can only visit once per day.
Another thing you can do with neighbors is to hire them. When you hire a neighbor, you'll pay them coins and receive experience. You'll then get an icon of their FrontierVille character that you can click on what you want tended to on your frontier.
One of the top FrontierVille tips to getting more neighbors is to look through posts on Frontierville "add me" pages. You'll find plenty of other players who need more neighbors there, or you can post to them yourself and let others find you.
Another great FrontierVille tip is to create another frontier if you have another Facebook account. this will make it much easier to get the things you need for buildings and missions.
Badges
One of the newest FrontierVille buildings is the Jackalope Lodge. Once you do the necessary missions and build the lodge you'll be able to get badges for certain achievements. Most of these achievements have four badge levels with some having three. You'll get a bonus every time you get a badge.
Varmints
You'll come across varmints as you do certain things on FrontierVille. There are four types of varmints - bears, foxes, groundhogs, and rattlesnakes. Bears come out when you chop down trees, foxes come out when you feed geese and chickens, groundhogs come out when you harvest crops, and rattlesnakes come out when you clear skulls and rocks.
When you come across a varmint you'll notice that whatever animals, trees, crops, or stuff that can be cleared near them will be red. If you attempt any action in a red area you'll get a pop-up telling you that it will take one more energy to do that action (if you click on a chicken you'll be asked if you want to sell it).
The Horseshoe Pit
One recent addition to FrontierVille is the Horseshoe Pit. To complete it you either need to spend horseshoes or you can do it for free by completing goals in other Zynga games - Farmville, Mafia Wars, Treasure Isle, Cafe World, and Zynga Poker.
Once you build the horseshoe pit, you can play on it to win prizes.Unfortunately, it does cost you horseshoes to play. It's best to wait until you have a lot of horseshoe before trying the Horseshoe Pit.
Special Missions
Sometimes, you'll find special missions on FrontierVille. These include missions for expanding your frontier and holiday missions. It's important to expand your frontier when you can, especially as you keep getting more buildings and decorations. You can certainly expect new missions for each major holiday as well.
In Closing
FrontierVille is a constantly updating game with new missions coming out regularly. When you go to your frontier, you'll no doubt notice signs for "Rattlesnake Canyon, "Buffalo Range", "Oregon Trail", and "Gold Rush". All of these say "coming soon", so there will be many more things to do on the game eventually. With the best FrontierVille tips, you can complete missions and get to a high level quickly.
